WildDex ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

Information We Collect

• Phone number — used to create and verify your account via SMS one-time passcode. We do not use your phone number for marketing.
• Username — a public display name you choose when creating your account.
• Photos — images you capture or upload to identify animals and photos you set as your profile picture. These are stored securely and may be visible to other users based on your post visibility settings.
• Location — approximate location attached to sightings when you choose to include it. Location is never collected in the background.
• Usage data — basic interaction data (sightings, likes, follows, comments) to power the social feed.

How We Use Your Information

• To authenticate your account and provide app functionality
• To identify animals in your photos using our AI service
• To display your sightings and profile to the WildDex community (subject to your visibility settings)
• To send push notifications you've opted into (e.g. daily reminders, activity alerts)
• To improve the app and fix issues

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising.

Third-Party Services

WildDex uses the following third-party services to operate:

• Supabase — database, file storage, and authentication infrastructure. Privacy policy

• Anthropic (Claude) — AI service used server-side to identify animals and generate information. Photos are sent to Anthropic's API for processing and are not retained by Anthropic beyond the API call. Privacy policy

Your data is processed in the United States.

Data Retention

Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us, which will remove your profile, sightings, and associated data from our systems within 30 days.

Children's Privacy

WildDex is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Opt out of push notifications at any time via your device settings or the in-app settings screen

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
